  16.     I am attempting to setup amitcp on a 1200.  I beleive I have it
  17. "intalled" to the extent that it is on the hard drive, but I need to
  18. remedy a error I'm getting.  The wording is something to the effect that
  19. the ppp device driver is offline.  Does that mean when "online ppp" is
  20. called that it can't dial the modem.  We are using a Metricom wireless
  21. modem to run ppp. We opened a term to the serial device and can verify
  22. that the modem is working properly.  I also have some general questions
  23. about the AmiTCP implementation.. like Do you have to have a IP address
  24. before you get one dynamically allocated.  It shows that when I run
  25. startnet that I should provide an IP address...  Some general direction
  26. would be nice.  Which files, and where are they, are the
  27. "configureation" files.  Does AmiTCP use resolv.conf, host,
  28. defaultgateway, etc.. for configuring.

  35. As for the metricom modem,
  36. It is pretty simple device.
  37. You type "atdt austinc**ppp" to get it to start sending configuration
  38. packets to the tcpip stack.  There is no authintication.  Can the amiga
  39. dialer send alphanumeric phone numbers to the modem ?  Again, Thanks.
